Tamworth and Stoneywell

Tamworth and Stoneywell

This short trip was not really planned as a Bertie run but as Eileen needed to take eye drops frequently through the day and those needed to be kept in the fridge it was essential to take Bertie with his fridge! We had already booked two nights at the Holiday Inn Express in Tamworth so in this case Bertie was just transport! We wanted to attend the Annual Meeting of the Debdale Owners which was held at Great Haywood Sports

Chasleston House and Ayno Wharf

Chasleston House and Ayno Wharf

The sun shone as we pulled away from Willow Farm and headed north around Bath and Bristol heading for the main road across the Cotswolds. The plan was to cover ground today so we have a good drive to our lunch stop at Chastleton House near Chipping Norton. This route takes us along the top of the Cotswolds through some lovely little towns such as Tetbury, Stow on The Wold and Chipping Norton. Chastleton House was a revelation. I must

Down to Devon

Down to Devon

We slept well at Lotmead Farm Park although there was a steady roar of traffic from the main road. Another sunny day promised as we peeked out at 7:30am – and there were staff arriving already! We emptied the loo cassette and after breakfast we moved the van over and filled up the fresh water and emptied the grey water. I offered to pay for these essential services but that was waived away. We took back our punnet we had

Home from Huddersfield

Home from Huddersfield

Robin and Jane Bradford arrived at Huddersfield to take over Debdale from us on Saturday 2nd July. After the usual car shuffle where Robin drove me to Sowerby Bridge to collect Bertie and leave his car, we loaded up Bertie and headed off at 2:30pm for the journey home. We had an easy drive through the hills on the edge of the peak district to an over night at Riber View Cafe and Farm Shop near Matlock (Britstop 531) where

Around Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne

No photographs today. We left Bashall Barns at 10:45 with quite a short drive today to go to Portland Basin Marina in Ashton-under-Lyne to meet our friends on our shared narrow boat, Debdale. As we had all day to cover less than 50 miles we stopped off at Gawthorpe Hall (NT) near Burnley. A magnificent house Elizabethan house owned by the National Trust and Lancaster County Council. We had a bit of wait as the hall did not open until

A grey windy day at Kenilworth

A grey windy day at Kenilworth

We got away from the Stag at Redhill shortly after 9am after a good night although we were aware of the wind getting up a bit. The parking space was quiet and well away from the busy road and we did not hear anything from the hotel car park either. This is a good stop over although the food was not special last night. It was an easy drive in to Kenilworth and we arrived in the town shortly before

Hollybush Inn beside the Caldon Canal

Hollybush Inn beside the Caldon Canal

Tonight we are parked up in the car park of the Hollybush Inn which is right beside the Caldon Canal. We are here to meet our friends Charlie and Liz Cordeaux who also own a slice of nb Debdale. Thanks to searchforsites.co.uk for the telling us about this place – we know the pub but not that it welcomed motorhomes – in fact the Murvi Owners Club are here with 10 vans for three days on a mini rally after
